Is professional installation required, or can I set it up myself?
It depends on the installation method you choose:
- Plug-and-Play installation (up to 800W on-grid output): No professional electrician is required. The HiBattery 4020 AC can be installed easily by connecting it to a suitable household outlet, subject to local regulations.
- Hardwired installation (up to 2500W output): A professional electrician is required. The installation must be carried out in accordance with applicable local electrical regulations and requirements.
How many batteries can I connect together for more storage?
HiBattery 4020 X and HiBattery 4020 AC both support expandable storage. You can connect up to 3 additional battery expansion modules, increasing the total capacity to a maximum of 16.08kWh.
How does Hoymiles build an ultimate safe energy storage system?
Hoymiles HiBattery delivers ultimate safety through a smart BMS, integrated fire safety system, pack-level DC/DC balancing, and IP66-rated protection for reliable operation in all environments.
Why are there two output power ratings (800 W and 2500 W)?
The available AC output depends on the installation method.
800W – Plug-and-Play installation via a standard household socket, subject to local regulations.
2500W – Professional installation via the household distribution board by a qualified electrician, where permitted by local regulations.
For professional installations that meet local requirements, the maximum output power can be increased to 2500 W in the S-Miles Home App.
How to enable Zero Export Mode?
You need a Hoymiles Smart Meter to enable Zero Export Mode in the Hoymiles app. By setting the export power to 0 W, your home energy system will automatically adjust the battery output to minimize power export to the grid.

Is the HiBattery 4020 AC compatible with all Hoymiles microinverters?
Yes. The HiBattery 4020 AC is compatible with all Hoymiles microinverters and can be easily integrated into existing Hoymiles solar systems.
How to enable 2500W output power on HiBattery 4020 X / 4020 AC?
The 2500W output power is only available with a hardwired installation performed by a professional electrician.
After completing the installation, please send a photo of the correctly installed system to shop.support@hoymiles.com. Once we verify the installation, we will enable the permission for you to adjust the output power to 2500W in the S-Miles Home app.
Do I have to use Wi-Fi to use the HiBattery 4020 X / 4020 AC?
Yes, Wi-Fi is required for the initial setup. We recommend connecting the battery to the Hoymiles app via Wi-Fi to complete the setup and access all functions for better device management.
Bluetooth is also supported, but you must complete the initial setup via Wi-Fi first. After the setup is completed, you can keep the settings unchanged and use Bluetooth to connect to the battery.
Can I use the HiBattery 4020 AC / 4020 X without a solar system?
Yes. You can use the HiBattery 4020 AC / 4020 X without solar panels.
With AI-TOU, the battery can charge from the grid when electricity prices are lower and discharge when prices are higher, helping you reduce your electricity costs. It can also provide backup power when needed.
How is the battery monitored (app, LCD, smart home integration)?
HiBattery 4020 X/AC can be monitored through the Hoymiles S-Miles App, which allows you to track real-time energy charging, usage, battery status, and system performance from your smartphone. It also supports smart home integration with platforms like Shelly and Everhome.
Who manufactures the battery, and do they have a good track record?
HiBattery 4020 is designed and manufactured in Hoymiles self-owned production facilities. Each battery is produced in-house under strict quality control standards to ensure consistent performance, safety, and long-term reliability.
